Our Spanish programme, nurtures pupils’ communication, cultural awareness and linguistic skills, encouraging them to think like confident global citizens.

Spanish is taught in Woodpeckers Class (Years 4 - 6), with pupils from Owls Class (Year 3) joining them to develop the confidence to listen, speak, read, and write in French. They apply their skills in meaningful contexts such as conversations, role-play and writing for purpose. Lessons are carefully adapted to meet different ages and abilities, ensuring all pupils are challenged and supported.

Each unit focusses on four core strands: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing (Woodpeckers only). Pupils explore a range of key areas including vocabulary, grammar, conversational skills, songs, stories, and cultural knowledge, including customs and everyday life in Spanish-speaking countries.

The curriculum is designed as a spiral programme, revisiting language and concepts with increasing depth and building on prior learning. This approach develops both linguistic confidence and critical thinking, preparing pupils to communicate effectively and engage thoughtfully with the Spanish-speaking world.
