Owls class have had a wonderful start to the year and are settling in well. We are enjoying new learning and getting used to classroom routines.
Year 1 have been recapping our place value and numbers to 10 in Maths and have been counting lots of different objects. Year 2 have been learning about Place Value and different representations of numbers.
We have also been doing lots of reading and this term we started with 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch'. As well as 'The Bear and the Piano'.
We even acted out some of the story!
Our topic this term is coastlines and we have already been doing some amazing coast inspired art!
Helping your child with reading
When hearing your child read at home it is important that you share books together and talk about what they might be about. This can be done by looking at the front cover and illustrations and asking for their thoughts about the book. This helps to build their inference skills and give them a sense of what is inside the book before they start to read it.
When listening to your child read it is good to listen to them read the same book more than once to build up their fluency and confidence.
This means you are setting your child up for success right from the start.
