We had a wonderful day for World Book day, with lots of different costumes and characters appearing in our classroom! Including the AWFUL Miss Trunchbull and the WONDERFUL Miss Honey, we even had a visit from Matilda, but don't worry, she wansn't thrown out of the window!
We had James and the Giant Peach as well as Willy Wonka and a goldern ticket! Well done for all of your efforts this year! It has been fantastic to see everyone so excited about the books and characters that they love.
We have reached the final stage of our Stop Motion Film topic. This week we have created our own 'static backgrounds' to act as the scenery for our films and then used modelling clay to create our movable characters. The children have worked extremely hard to complete their films and are very proud of them. Next week...on to Science...
Christopher Wren Exhibit
I am so proud of our children for this incredible mention of our hard work on Christopher Wren. Our amazing structure is front and centre on the BBC Website! You absolute stars Kestrels! :)
This half term has already got off to a very exciting start. The children have been planning and using the computer program Pivot to create their very own animation short films. Pivot is a free, child-safe program and can be downloaded to any computer. Our next step is to use our modelling skills to create our vwey own stop motion animations. We have been looking at internet saftey, and how to keep ourselves safe online. The Year 3 and 4 children created a poster to promote internet safety and informa others about the dangers online, whilst the Year 5 and 6 children learned ways to identify 'fake profiles' on social media. They then created a powerpoint promoting internet safety. Here is some of our work so far.
Below are some of our internet safety PowerPoints
Here are some of our Chrisptopher Wren letters and information pieces. We have been working very hard and are very proud of our writing.
We have been looking at Stone Age houses and building small model homes to use for our Stop Motion ICT project this term. We researched wattle and dorb houses and used clay and dowel to re-create a small version of a Stone Age leading into Iron Age home.
As part of our local history, we have been learning about Christopher Wren. Sir Christopher Wren was one of the most highly acclaimed English architects in history, as well as an anatomist, astronomer, geometer, and mathematician-physicist and he was born in East Knoyle. 2023 marks the 300th anniversary of his death so as part of our community we have been asked to create a special competition piece that will be displayed in East Knoyle Village Hall during half term.
The children have been looking at formal letter writing and how to structure a letter using both addresses and formal language to compose a letter to Thomas Adams (the mayor of London) from Christopher Wren.
We have also researched Christopher Wren and written a small information piece about him for the display.
