Summer 2023 Take One Picture

Sunflowers, sunflowers, sunflowers!

Art

Take One Picture

We are using Van Gogh's painting of The Sunflowers as our focus for topic this term.

In art our focus has been on colour mixing, we have re-created our own versions of the painting! The children spent a long time perfecting their sketching of the flowers with several drafts, then when they were happy they were able to draw their final sketch and mix their primary colours to make their secondary colours.

Science

We are exploring different plants. We have planted sunflowers, peas, potatoes and runner beans. You may notice something slightly different about the way we have 'planted' our pea seeds - we are holding an experiment to see if they can grow without soil!

DT

The children have built their own structure from flexible materials then used their learnt knowledge about colour and brush stroke to decorate it.

Miss Berry's goats came to visit!

We came into school after half term to discover a giant beanstalk had grown in our classroom! We aren't sure how it got there, but we do have our sneaky suspicions...! We've spent a lot of our Busy Time trying to investigate where it came from.

The beanstalk reminded us of a great story we know - Jack and the Beanstalk. We decided to build a castle outside so that we could act out the story. We hope a REAL giant doesn't come down our beanstalk!!

The Daily Mile

We absolutely love doing the Daily Mile every day! At around 9am every morning we wake up our bodies and brains by running, walking or jogging around the field for 10 minutes. We have a 'time-keeper' on the stop watch to make sure we keep going for the whole time. Here's why we do it;

  • It helps to improve fitness and achieve a healthy weight.
  • Children run outside in the fresh air – and the weather is a benefit, not a barrier.
  • The children return to class ready to learn.

  • It encourages children to be aware of their health.

  • It’s fully inclusive; every child, whatever their circumstances, age or ability, succeeds at The Daily Mile.
